Journey
tabi
For the trip that changed you.
Hand-brushed kanji on denim
A calligrapher with a dan rank in shodo paints the kanji you choose onto your jeans.
Why Kanjeans
Kanji are written with a brush: every stroke has weight, speed and breath. That is what you take home — not a printed design, but real calligraphy, made for you.
Every kanji is brushed by hand by a calligrapher who holds a dan rank in shodo. Real brushwork, not a print.
We help you choose kanji that truly say what you mean, and tell you exactly what they say. No lost-in-translation moments.
No two brushstrokes are ever the same. The only one in the world, made for you alone.
Choose your word
Pick one of these, or bring your own idea — we will help you find the kanji that fits.

How it works
No workshop to sit through, no skills needed. You choose the word; a calligrapher writes it.
Tell us your word and your dates in Japan. Ordering takes two minutes.
We settle the word, the size and where it goes — back pocket, thigh or hem — with you by email.
A dan-ranked calligrapher brushes your word onto your jeans by hand, one stroke at a time.
We heat-set the ink so it stays, then ship your jeans back to you — free, anywhere in Japan.
Price
Simple and clear: you pay per kanji, tax included, and delivery within Japan is free.
Questions
The brushing itself is quick, but the ink needs time to dry and be heat-set. We agree on a finish date that fits your trip when we confirm your order, so your jeans reach you before you leave Japan.
Once your order is confirmed, we tell you where to send them. Sending them to us is at your own cost; most hotel front desks and convenience stores can send a parcel for you. We ship them back for free to your hotel or any address in Japan. We can’t ship overseas, so we plan the timing around your trip.
Jeans you already own, or a new pair from a store like UNIQLO — both work. Most cotton denim takes the ink well; very stretchy or coated fabric may not, so we check before we start.
No. The fabric paint is heat-set into the cotton. Follow the care tag and it stays with your jeans.
Yes — in kanji chosen for both sound and meaning. Katakana and hiragana are also possible, at the same price per character.
No. Everything is arranged by email, in English. We reply every day between 10:00 and 20:00, Japan time.
Tell us what this trip means to you, and we will suggest a few words that fit.
Before we brush, we confirm the word, size and placement with you by email. If we brush something different, we refund you in full and pay up to ¥5,000 toward a replacement pair — but we can’t cover sentimental or collector value. See our Legal notice.
